A Few Years Passed

Personally, I have never had a supernatural experience, which I guess is is all the better, because I'm not sure I would handle it well. However, my mother has told me about a very scary experience she had a few years ago, which I would like to share with you.

My parents bought the house we currently live in in 1975. When they moved in, there was an elderly couple living next door named Mr. and Mrs. Kelly.  

A few years passed, and Mr. Kelly died. His death affected Mrs. Kelly very strongly and she fell into a deep state of depression, from which she never recovered. During her last few weeks, she was so emotionally distraught that she stopped leaving the house entirely, after hiring a nurse to do her shopping and to stop in and check on her every couple days. 

On Palm Sunday in 1978, my mother saw a hearse parked out front of Mrs. Kelly's house. She figured that Mrs. Kelly had just died of old age, but she later found out that Mrs. Kelly had actually hanged herself in the doorway of the basement.

In the early 1980's, a new family moved into the house next door. It was a family of four- Jim and Dee, and their two children, Jennifer and Anthony.  Needless to say, the family was never told about Mrs. Kelly's untimely death. 

The new family's first few years in the house passed pretty uneventfully, until one night when Dee bought a tape recorder. She needed the tape recorder to be able to pick up sound from across a room, so she set up the tape recorder and had Jennifer and Anthony play around and make noise across the room.

Then, she sent the children to bed and played back the tape. What she heard was terrifying. The only sound on the tape was a raspy woman's voice calling "Help me, help me," over and over again. She didn't know what to make of it, so she ran next door and played the tape to my mother, who offered no explanation. Soon after, Dee's family moved out.

Two other families have lived in the house since then, and nothing quite as startling has happened. But I do baby-sit the little girls who currently live next door, and the playroom where we spend the evening is...... in the basement! Also, the youngest girl, who is seven years old, tells me that she doesn't like their house because she hears strange noises from time to time.........
