After My Mother Was Killed

I am writing to tell about some strange things that happened after my mother was killed in a car wreck in September of 1990. 

I believe it is true that people who die suddenly or tragically may not be ready yet to let go of their loved ones and may want to "hang around" for a while to make sure they will be okay. 

This would have been very typical for my mother who always doted on me and my son and probably would be very worried about our ability to get along without her. 

The first unusual thing that occurred was the day after her wreck. When we went to identify her body, the patrolman who was at the wreck gave us her belongings including her wedding ring. It was a band with a small diamond cluster. 

When he gave it to us, I immediately noticed that the cluster was missing from the band. She was thrown from the car and it must have been scraped off the band. At that instant, something told me to get in the car and go to the location of the wreck and I would find the cluster.

 Commonsense told me that it would be impossible to find since there was a lot of gravel on and beside the road and the cluster was so small. However, I followed my gut feeling and went to the site. I got out of my car and something "led" me to a certain spot on the side of the road (which was nothing but gravel). 

The second I looked down I saw it. I had only been out of my car for about 5 seconds and already I found it. And it was not laying diamond side up...it was laying upside down so there was no visible "sparkle". 

The next strange event occurred 4 days after her death, which was my birthday. I was staying with my dad since her death and was taking a shower that morning in what was "her" bathroom. The shower door was the sliding glass type. I had just lathered my hair with shampoo when I happened to glance at the glass door for whatever reason. 

I saw writing in the steam. It was very even and looked as if it were done with something the size of a q-tip or maybe pencil eraser. I only managed to read the words.."Hope you have...." before I took my hand and wiped it off in a panicky. I was so terrified that I jumped out of the shower with shampoo still in my hair. 

I never told my father about that event. Now I wish I had read the rest of the message, but I was absolutely petrified at the time. The last event that I will write here was experienced by my husband right after we got married.

This occurred approximately 2 years after my mother's death. It was about 10:00 pm and I was still at work. My husband was in the kitchen doing dishes. He heard and saw the front door open and close and assumed it was me since I was due home any second. He waited for me to come into the kitchen and greet him. 

Then he noticed that the radio he had been listening to while doing dishes had been turned off. Again, he assumed it was me and I was just playing a little trick on him. However after a few minutes passed, he became curious, took a step back from the sink and looked into the den towards the door. It was then he saw her. 

She was looking around the corner at him. It didn't register at first who it was he was looking at (head never met my mom since she was killed before we got married). He made eye contact with her for about 5 or 6 seconds, then he looked away in disbelief. He then forced himself to look again and she was turning and walked into the wall and disappeared. He said she just had a curious look on her face. 

Needless to say, he was very shaken when I got home a few minutes later, and it took him a while before he was able to tell me what happened. I can only assume she wanted to "meet" my new husband too! There have been numerous other happenings that I can't explain such as smelling her perfume, the radio suddenly changing stations, etc. 

I have just written about the more outstanding ones.
