Tsao Made Us Move Three Times

There are these ghost or spirits that we call 'tsao' in our culture. 

They're suppose to be ghostly forms of spirits looking for warmth and embrace from people. well there was this old house that we lived in when I was a child. Those ghosts, many of them would come almost every night to sleep with my parents. 

My father slept at the end of the bed by the door while my mom next to him and us children slept at the opposite side of the room. We were sharing a house with our cousins. Well, for some reason or another, these tsao would come at night around like 2 am. A female would come to my father and a male would come to my mother. This has happened to many people too not just my parents. But his is how it is, as my parents describes. 

You can feel their presence when they come, you came hear their whispers but can't make out what they are saying. They whisper for a while until the middle of the night and they come to you. You would feel a heavy pressure on you and you couldn't move when you tried to. 

You couldn't scream, it was like they were coving your mouth or your voice just wouldn't work. Then I you were awake and tried to struggle, the pressure went away and you could breath and scream all you want because then they would go away. 

Those tsao cam almost every night and there were more and more of them. There must be something about my parents that they liked. But one day, my parents tried to trick them. My parents switched places one night and the wrong tsao came for the wrong person, meaning the female thought my mom was my dad. 

It didn't work because soon, they knew the drill and my parents just couldn't fool them. Finally, my parents talked to people about it and they said that my parents should cut out human shapes or doll figures that were connected by the hands, out of paper. And to tie red cloth strings around the items in the house, on the door knobs on their wrists and stuff like that. 

So my parents put the paper dolls and red strings up around the living room place and on the doors and on their wrists. Those tsao came and got confused and scared. The dolls shielded us and they were afraid. So they tried some things but couldn't keep up with the red strings and the paper dolls so they stopped coming. they never bothered my parents or our family again. 

We've moved3 times since that happened and I'm married now, so you can see how long ago that was.
