A Cooperative Spirit

I moved into the house in Sioux City, Iowa, around ten years ago. 

I live in the house alone. At night as I lay in bed, I could always here voices in the living room. It sounded like the TV was on, but at a very low volume.

I could occasionally make out a few words, but that's about it. Once in a while, I would go out just to make sure the TV wasn't on, which of course it never was.

I suppose it could have just been people outside talking, but every night? I have since purchased a fish tank, which covers up the voices, so they can hold their conversations in peace without fear of me overhearing. 

Other odd things happen occasionally. Items (mostly pens) will disappear for weeks on end, then I suddenly find them on my coffee table. The water has turned on by itself once. Sometimes lights will turn on by themselves. Pictures on the refrigerator will sometimes be rearranged. 

Nothing dangerous or anything, just minor annoyances at most. One thing that really weirded me out, though. One night, I was lying in bed, and suddenly there was a rapping sound, like someone banging their fist on a metal pipe. Every six or seven seconds, the rap would happen. 

After about the fifth or six one, I said the following aloud: "Do you mind? I'm trying to get some sleep here!" And the rapping stopped. I added a quick "Thank you!", then lie in bed for a while thanking God that I had a nice ghost living with me. 

I haven't done any kind of background checking on the house, though I do know that an old lady had lived here. She had died a number of years before I started renting it, but I have no ideas by what means. 

More than likely natural.
