The Eyeless Spectre

I am 24 years old at this time and have had many experiences with the paranormal. 

I am highly sensitive to their presence and as one friend says I am a flood gate to the paranormal. I too believe this as I've encountered the dead, poltergeists, and shadow people over the course of my life. This story though is about an apartment I lived in from July 1998 until Halloween of 1998.

I had met a wonderful man named David whom my infant son and I moved in with that summer. Previous to moving in he'd told me that his 5 yr. old daughter had seen a little girl in the apartment but I never thought much of it. I knew that children were highly sensitive to such things. I myself hadn't picked up on anything until after I'd moved in.

It started with an eerie feeling when I entered the bedroom next to mine. I had turned it into the nursery so I entered the room quite often. Each time I entered I felt as if someone was staring me down from the corner of the room. I ignored it until I began to notice that my 9 month. old son would stare at the corner at the same time I felt the presence. 

Soon things took on a different feel as the TV in the nursery would turn on, doors opened unexplained, and things had been moved. It became a bit more terrifying when my soon-to-be husband and I would awake in the middle of the night to find the baby crying and on the floor outside our door! How he could've gotten out of his crib and across the room is beyond any rational explanation as he couldn't even crawl or stand yet! 

The scariest was one night I couldn't sleep so I went into the living room to fold laundry. I had a dim lamp on and the stereo playing softly. At about 1 a.m. the light flickered. I thought nothing of it as I thought it was a power surge until I realized that the music never stopped. If the power had surged then the music would've stopped! I looked across the room at the stereo when I noticed a shadowy form just a bit into the kitchen doorway. 

I thought it was David but as my eyes adjusted to the darkened room I became frozen with fear. A shirtless man stood facing me, peering at me, but there was only empty blackness where his eyes should have been. He never moved as I sat staring back at him. I finally gathered my courage and leapt to my feet. I ran to my bedroom without a backward glance. By the time I reached the bed I was crying hysterically as I had never seen such a spectre. 

After ten minutes or so I calmed down enough to tell David what I'd encountered. As I described the man, David told me that sounded just like the guy who had lived in the apartment across from ours. Almost a year before I'd met David a man that lived in apartment B had been decapitated in a car wreck when he lost control and struck a tree. 

I hadn't known about that! A month later David was going out of town for three days so I decided I was going to stay at my mother's for the duration. The morning David left I was standing in the kitchen watching him pull away in his truck when I said out loud to myself," Well, he's gone so it's for me to go, too." 

As I turned to the table to collect my things a man's voice answered," Good." I grabbed my bags and ran as fast as I could! I did not return until David did needlessly to say. It wasn't long after that when we moved. I refused to stay in the apartment any longer. So on Halloween we moved into our new house as I was not about to be in that apartment on that night of all nights! 

To this day I still won't go near the place and I never will....
