The Former Funeral Home

In my hometown of Payne, OH there is many old houses with French doors with glass in them. 

Mine was one of them, so was a girl's I went to school with. 

I've been told that there was no funeral home there in earlier days, so they would place a dead body on the other side of the glass doors for the family to walk by and pay their last respects. 

Her house was always freaking us out, especially in the basement stairway. When you opened the door to go down the stairs you came to a half bath with a curtain in front of the stairs. It must've been the old hotel b/c you could still make out the numbers on the upstairs doors. 

One night, her and I were in her room reading magazines, just having a good old time. We heard someone walk up the stairway (what we thought was one of her parents) to the second floor. It was that distinct creaking one heard when moving around in an old house like that. 

We didn't think anything of it. We heard no one walk back downstairs, and when we exited 15 min. later, her parents bedroom door was shut. We went downstairs to get a snack to find both of her parents downstairs. 

We asked them who was upstairs and they replied, "No one has went upstairs." We went upstairs thinking it was her brother playing a trick on us. We found no one. We searched in closet, the shower, the rooms...everywhere! 

No one! We freaked out and slept on the porch. She later told me that her brother encountered a strange being on the stairs in the early morning hours.
