Hard To Believe

Because my mother had come here from Italy when she was a child she shared many stores of deceased relatives visiting the family. Thus I've always believed in the paranormal. My husband on the other hand was very skeptical until it happened to him. Our story starts after we had sold our home and had to rent a town house while our new home was being built.

From the first day we looked at the town house in 1997 I didn't want to be there, but since we were desperate I agreed we had to take it. The first night we moved in we had to sleep in the living room in sleeping bags. My eleven year old daughter woke me in the middle of the night to tell me she woke to see a man standing over her staring at her looking very angry. Needless to say my husband laughed it off. After that first night the occurrences were constant. 

Doors opening and closing, faucets turning off and on and the TV would have a mind of its own. We also had a German Shepard dog that wouldn't go near the basement or even the basement door, in fact he would howl if you tried to leave him alone at home and believe me it wasn't easy taking a dog everywhere you went.

My husband always had reasons for the happenings, it was the wind, bad plumbing, or an old TV. That is until the day he agreed to go in the basement to take the wash out of the dryer. The basement was especially creepy, you always felt someone was watching you. As my husband unloaded the dryer he turned around to come upstairs when he saw a man hanging from the pipes in the basement. My husband said you could see through the man and he dropped the wash and came running upstairs. From that day on my husband had no more doubts.

Fortunately we only lived there a year, when we gave our notice to move the land lord asked us not to say anything to prospective renters. When I told him I thought the place was haunted, he admitted it was. A previous tenant had killed his wife and daughter and hung himself in the basement. That was the turn around for my husband who now has no more doubts about things that go bump in the night.
