Grandpa Helped Kill Them

When my grandfather died I was 8 years old. 

He was a Baptist Minster. So he had a big funeral. I sit on the first row with my mother and brother. 

After, on the way home. I ask my father who where the 3 black boys that where standing by his casket. He ask me what black boys? I said 3 black boys in their teens in ragged overalls where they're standing next to his casket. 

My mother said damm, he did do it . I ask what? Father said that in 1952 in Montgomery Ala. 3boys where hanged from a bridge. Taken from the jail in the middle of the night. Accused of raping a white woman, who later admitted she lied. 

It had always been whispered that my grandfather was one of the mob that did this. I don't think anyone ever tried to find out who hung them. I wonder if anyone else at that funeral saw those boys ?
