Hotels Travel Savings Deals and Discounts

To get the best price on hotels you will need to shop around.

Start with a large travel site like Expedia. After getting price ranges for your intended dates of travel you can then go to other websites. The more research you do, the better informed you will become.

Your choices will be the greatest if you are just going to be passing through an area and simply require a place to stay overnight. If you are traveling over the weekend, a downtown business hotel may have plenty of availability and low rates. Conversely, during the week, suburban hotels will generally have lower comparative rates.

If location is important to you, then you will have to focus your search more narrowly. Likewise, if you have special needs, your options will be more limited. Remember to factor in other associated costs like parking.

Once you find a hotel at a price you deem is reasonable, go to the hotel website directly and look for special rates and packages. Locate the local telephone number for the property and the hotel a call. Ask for special rates, packages or discounts. Mention any club memberships like AAA, AARP and others to which you belong.

Lastly you should review a price bidding site like priceline. Determine how much savings you would want in order to change any of your choices and bid accordingly. Do not be shy in bidding lower than you think is possible. But do not think you will get a 5 star hotel for $30 either. I recently got a $55 rate for a $129 hotel in off season.

Once you have the best price, go ahead and book it immediately. If you later find a better rate, offset any cancellation fees against your potential savings and act accordingly.

When you stop at waysides, rest stops, gas stations and other traveler spots, you should be sure to pick up any hotel coupon books you see. Even if you have a confirmed reservation, there just might be a coupon available for your intended hotel. The maps contained in those booklets also give you a great overview of the various cities and make finding your way around a little easier.

There are online maps at Visitoinfo.com for every state and city. They are excellent for navigating. Find your hotel in the list, or one nearby, and you can easily move all around the maps to locate streets, intersections and landmarks. They are great for getting your bearings in a large city.

Remember it is your money and you have total freedom as to where you decide to spend it. You can get some really great deals by shopping around!
